tonights efforts! Positioning the boiler and engine to try and work out how to mount! And, drawing a curve for the curve of the deck just forward of the stern tube.

boatmadman - I put some pics on your webpage. They were about all I could find but are better than nothing. Looks like the wheelhouse had 3 windows facing forward & 2 curved from the forward to each side. glennmci.brinkster.net/contris/model1.html

Thats a great help, thanks Glenn. back to the drawing board, literally, to turn the angled windows into curves!
I had got my ideas from Frigate Bird, but the pic of Lews is great. It gives me lots to work with - lights, wheelhouse, approx dimensions etc. Just need to work out how to model rusty flaky metal!
Having seen Lews and looking back at Frigate Bird, its obvious to me now that the angled windows are indeed curved - the light reflection gives that away. Should have spotted that!
Any ideas what the tubes rising from each side to the centre are for?
Do you have anything that shows the aft end of the superstructure for the later drifters, where the door in Frigate Bird is?
The pic I have of Jeannie suggests the door may be on the starboard side, but it really is vague, and may only be a porthole, or indeed, something else entirely!
I cant see anything for engine room vents, other than what Frigate Bird shows, so i think I will probably do something along those lines.

Hi, Had another look at Lews and I think there were 4 windows facing forward, then 1 each curving to the side. If you think that the mast is on the centreline, then there are 2 windows facing forward on each side of centre.

Hmmm - maybe perspective playing tricks. I think the name LEWS is on the centre & there are only 3 windows between the lights - I reckon 3. What a fantastic lot of pics on that site you posted the link to. Steam drifters from every angle & some very clear too. Wow - ta for that. They should answer all your questions about wot was where & wot did it look like ;D I've no idea what the tube at the front of the wheelhouse was for. Glenn

Glenn,
Yup, think you are right about the 3 windows, perspective is tricky!
I e mailed the site owner of that link asking if the coularbank was a Mcintosh build and if so, if he had any more info about it.
Yes, I can get a lot afrom that pic, dimensions as well, seeing as one of the crew was good enough to stand by the dinghy at the time of the pic!
Interestingly, it looks like the funnel on coularbank is vertical (or near enough) as Jeannie's looks. Frigate's has a good aft lean on!

Hi, Got a little done today, fitted the rudder tube, and the under deck on the stern. Also managed a start on the stern rail, doing this using a thin peice of lime to give me the shape of the stern, held in place with pegs, and fitting individual peices of lime vertically to give me a rough shape to sand from. Fiddly, but should work I hope Ian

So you survived Christmas celebrations OK boatmadman - now for New Year celebrations I found another site which has quite a few steam drifter pics as well as all those rippers on the trawlerphotos site. Go to the steam pages from this page freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~treevecwll/yorkies.htmKeep up the good work.
